About Samsung

Founded back in 1969 as Samsung Electric Industries, Suwon, South Korea-headquartered Samsung Electronics today makes everything from televisions to semiconductors. It released its first Android smartphone in 2009, and can be credited with the launch of the first Android tablet back in 2010. The company is among the biggest players in the smartphone market in the world. It has recently developed smartphones running Tizen OS, as an alternative to its Android-based smartphones.

About OnePlus

OnePlus is a Shenzhen-based start-up and producer of smartphones founded in December, 2013. The company's claim to fame is its bid to offer flagship-level specs in its smartphones, at affordable prices. OnePlus initially sold its smartphones only through an invite system where customers would be sent an invite to purchase smartphones and they had to make the purchase within a fixed time frame. Of late the company has held open sales of its smartphones too.

About LG

Founded in Seoul in 1958 as GoldStar, LG Electronics today makes home appliances, mobiles, tablets, and televisions. LG launched its first Android smartphone in 2009, and its first Android tablet in 2011. The company is known for its flagship G series of smartphones and a wide range of products including smart TVs.

About Motorola

Motorola Mobility was established in 2011 following the split of Motorola into two companies, with Motorola Solutions catering to the enterprise segment. Acquired soon after by Google, Motorola Mobility was sold to Lenovo in 2014. Motorola made its first Android smartphone in 2009, and its first Android tablet in 2011.

About Nokia

Nokia used to be one of the world’s biggest mobile phone manufacturers but it fell behind with the advent of iPhone and Android smartphones. In 2014, Nokia’s Devices and Services division was sold to Microsoft. In 2016, Finnish company HMD Global bought a part of Microsoft’s feature phone business and has a licensing agreement that allows it to make smartphones under the Nokia brand.

About Huawei

The Chinese telecommunications company has been manufacturing mobile phones since 1997. It is also the largest telecom infrastructure maker in the world. The company also makes Android smartphones and tablets. Recently it has stepped into the smartwatch market with an Android Wear based device. It is another one of the big smartphone manufacturers from China.

About Xiaomi

Xiaomi is a privately owned company that designs, develops, and sells smartphones, an Android-based OS, and other consumer electronics. Xiaomi also makes fitness trackers, TVs, air purifiers, and tablets. It has a skin for its Android phones and tablets – MIUI. The company largely sells its phones via flash sales in India.

Founded in a garage in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, Apple began as a personal computer pioneer that today makes everything from laptops to portable media players. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, the consumer electronics giant entered the smartphone market with the iPhone in 2007, and the tablet market with the iPad in 2010, and the smartwatch market with the Apple Watch in 2014.

Google is an American company specializing in Internet-related services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, software, and hardware. The company owns the Android operating system, which is the world's most popular smartphone OS. Google's impressive portfolio of services includes Gmail, YouTube, and Google Search, making it one of the biggest Internet companies in the world.

About Oppo

OPPO Electronics Corp. is an electronics manufacturer based in Guangdong, China. Known for its smartphones, the company also makes MP3 players, portable media players, LCD-TVs, and DVD/Blu-ray players. It was founded in 2004. The company is also a smartphone maker. It has launched a whole range of Android powered smartphones.

About Vivo

Vivo Electronics Corp. is a phone brand based in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. It was founded in 2009. The company is another Chinese smartphone maker to enter India recently. It makes low-cost Android phones, and those in the mid-range segment of the market. All of these are available in India too.

About Lyf

Lyf is Reliance Retail's brand of smartphones that was launched in India in 2016 and now these phones are available with free Reliance Jio SIM and its preview offer. Lyf phones come preloaded with Reliance Jio apps like my Jio, Jio express news, Jio chat, Jionet Hotspot, and others. All Lyf smartphones launched as of 2016 run Google's Android operating system. The company launched smartphones under four sub-brands - Earth, Water, Wind, and Flame.

About Coolpad

Coolpad Group Limited is a Chinese telecommunications equipment company headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Coolpad is among the largest smartphone companies from China. It recently entered the Indian market via a partnership with the online shopping website Snapdeal. Coolpad's smartphones were exclusively available on the ecommerce website for the company's Indian customers.

About HTC

Founded in 1997 as a laptop manufacturer, Taiwan-based HTC soon began making smartphones based on Windows Mobile and Brew. It released the first commercial Android smartphone, the HTC Dream, in 2008, and is today a manufacturer of both Android and Windows based smartphones. HTC re-entered the tablet market with the Google Nexus 9 in 2014.

About Sony

Sony Mobile (previously known as Sony Ericsson Mobile) is a subsidiary of the electronics giant Sony Corporation. The company's Xperia range that started off with Windows Mobile OS has moved to Android and is a significant part of the smartphone market today. The company markets some of its phones as waterproof and dustproof.

About Karbonn

India based Karbonn is a joint venture between Delhi-based Jaina Group and Bangalore-based UTL Group. The company is a manufacturer of both mobile phones and tablets. It is among the biggest smartphone makers in the country. Karbonn was one of the three manufacturers to first bring Google's Android One initiative to India.

About ZTE

Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment Corporation is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company which is the world's fourth-largest mobile phone manufacturer. The company has made several Android smartphones and tablets. While the company mainly sells products under the ZTE brand, it is also an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

Shenzhen ZOPO Communication Equipment Co. Ltd., headquartered in Shenzhen, China and established in 2008, is engaged in the designing, manufacturing, and marketing of mobile intelligent terminal products. Zopo has recently launched smartphones in the Indian market, which makes it another Chinese brand that has launched its products in the country.

Intex is an Indian handset manufacturer which pivoted from making computer peripherals. It started with feature phones and now also makes Android smartphones. It is one of India's biggest smartphone makers. The company has also manufactured TVs and recently launched an Android smartwatch in a bid to expand its product portfolio.

About iBall

An electronics company headquartered in Mumbai, iBall is a manufacturer of computer peripherals, mobile phones and tablets. iBall focuses on budget Android smartphones and tablets. The company started out as a PC peripherals maker and expanded into Android devices later. iBall also makes speakers, headphones, mouse pointing devices, keyboards, pen drives, among other devices.

Archos is a French consumer electronics company that was established in 1989 by Henri Crohas. Archos manufactures portable media players and portable data storage devices. Of late the company has started making tablets and smartphones as well. Archos has also manufactured devices for other companies. The company's smartphones run Android, while it has made Android tablets, apart from those running Windows.

Alcatel was established in established in 2004 as a joint venture between Alcatel-Lucent of France and TCL Communication of China. The company is the manufacturer of the One Touch mobile and tablet series. Yota is a Russian mobile broadband services provider and smartphone manufacturer. This Russian company is known for its Android device called Yotaphone. This is a smartphone with two screens. The second screen of this smartphone is on the back of the device, where most other phones have a battery cover.
